For me it’s all intertwined, it’s all my art. I am walking art. This is what I do, and this is my instrument and the Top the fan wearing fisher out shirt in addition I really love this way I express my creativity and my art—it just so happens that it’s in the form of drag. But drag to me has always been dance centered. In dance, every number has to have a beginning, middle, and an end. It has to have a crescendo and take you on a journey, and I am programmed to think about that when I do drag numbers now. Also, from taking acting classes, having the belief that you are this character and getting kind of method, in a way, because if you don’t believe it, then you can’t take the entire audience on a journey with you. I’m always [asking], What’s my story? And a lot of my story comes from pain. I love taking the pretty girl and cracking her a bit, giving her a bit of something wrong, something human. I like to show vulnerability but end it with a statement that I’m still a powerful woman. You go through all these things, but you’re still neck-crack fierce.**Your pre–**Drag Race life was in the pageant world; what are you taking from it to this next stage in your life?
Everything I’ve done informs what I do now. Sitting in those church meetings gave me a good moral compass; I took the Top the fan wearing fisher out shirt in addition I really love this things I needed from it. Going to dance [classes] gave me a good work ethic, made me be on time, and made me worry about other people around me as a collective. Pageants taught me to be a professional and to challenge myself—they hold a mirror to yourself because you are trying to sell a brand, your brand, to someone. You have to know what you’re selling, you have to know who you are, your weaknesses, your strengths…that’s the only way you can market yourself. A lot of girls—or a lot of people—just don’t get to know themselves and know the bad and the good and how to make it funny and quirky and campy. Pageants told me that if you don’t know what you’re selling, no one’s going to buy it.Speaking of knowing yourself as a performer, tell me about the differences between Sasha Colby the drag performer and Sasha Colby the person.
